Welcome to our tribute to our buddy Alison Arngrim...better know to those "Little House on the Prairie" fans as the meanest little girl in the West: Nellie Oleson.

Jess Petersen
March 27, 1944 to May 21, 2008

Jess was my "Personal Manager" for many years, but he was quite a bit more than that. He was sort of like a third parent. When I was a teenager, my friends used to tease me that I was the only person they knew who had, "a mother, a father and a Jess".

And well, now I don't have him anymore.

He led a very interesting life, (to put it mildly!), and I really had trouble getting everything he did into an obituary. To read Jess's biography click here

Limited Edition collectible figure. Signed ponies now available.

And... here is the latest from Alison and hubby Bob.

Aah, November at last. Time to turn the heat back on and enjoy some relief from the heat wave. But wait! It’s going to be 95 today! That’s not November weather!

Alison is finally home from France. (It took her two days to start speaking English again. Good thing I took those classes!) And things are going well around here. The cat is happy, we’re getting a different car, and we spent last night celebrating at a birthday party for Judy Tenuta. Had a blast!

On the way to the party we had to stop at our local newsstand and pick up a few copies of Entertainment Weekly. They're calling it the Reunion Issue, featuring reunions of the casts of Monty Python, Ghostbusters, The Fabulous Baker Boys and ... wait for it... Little House On the Prairie! There they are, starting on page 64, photos and interviews from the gathering in New York for the Today Show. This is Entertainment Weekly Double Issue #1337/1338 dated Nov. 14/21, 2014, on newsstands now. If you miss it you can try the Entertainment Weekly Back Issues Stor, or ou can call 1-813-979-6828.

A lot of things are going on right now. Alison is involved in a project called "Life Interrupted"” with Mason Reese. Mason Reese?? You mean? Yes, THAT Mason Reese, the kid from the Underwood Deviled Ham commercials! It also stars Erin Murphy, (Tabitha from “Bewtiched”), and Dawn Wells, ("Mary Ann" from "Gilligan’s Island") and a whole boatload of people from your favorite shows . They have a kickstarter campaign going to raise money for their pilot. Check it out: From their website: “What happens when a former child actor wakes up on the eve of his 50th birthday and is less than thrilled with the way his life has turned out? On Manhattan's lower east side, in a crappy studio apartment over the slightly less crappy bar he co-owns with his ex-wife (who left him for another woman 15 years ago), and in a building owned by his former mother-in-law, Mason Bell attempts to navigate his way out of his very first mid-life crisis.” Alison is the ex-wife, and the woman she left Mason for is Erin! Yes, in this show Nellie is married to Tabitha!!

And this isn’t all. There’s another pilot for another series that is still too secret to tell you about, but it also involves ex child stars. There is still a possible horror movie pending and, oh wait, another kickstarter!

Do you remember Alison in "Make The Yuletide Gay"? (What!?! You haven't seen it yet? It's Christmas, and if you're good, Santa just might...) Anyway, this award winning Christmas comedy had people begging for a sequel from its first screening, and Guest House Films continues to get messages from fans wanting the story to continue. With the original "Make The Yuletide Gay" having become an annual holiday tradition for many fans, Guest House Films wants to continue the story by producing a sequel, tentatively titled (of course) "Make The Yuletide Gay 2." This is where the fans come in. Check it out: Alison would reprise her role as Mrs. Mancuso, the haughty, up-scale, leopard-print-wearing nosy neighbor cougar from the first film.

So, let’s get right into the schedule:

On Thursday, November 13th, Alison will be in Las Vegas for one performance only in the hilarious "Joni & Gina’s Wedding" at the Viva Las Vegas Event Center, 1201 S. Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89104. Tickets are $60 general admission or $80 VIP, with $10 off for Nevada residents. Check it out: Doors open for cocktails at 6:45 and the ceremony starts promptly at 7:30, with dinner and dancing to follow. (Yep, it’s just like going to a wedding. And they feed you!) Alison reprises her role as the slightly off kilter Reverend Pat Miass, who performs the ceremony. Tickets are selling fast, and there are only a few days left before the performance.

And then there’s Thanksgiving. We’ll be up early preparing the turkey (and arguing about what goes in the stuffing!) and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. (THAT’s when the Christmas season starts, not three weeks ago like they’re now doing in the stores around here!)

And right after Thanksgiving, there will be the next episode of The Nasty Nellie Oleson Tour of Hollywood, scheduled for Sunday, November 30th at 4:00 PM. This will be this year’s Post-Thanksgiving episode, and who could predict what shenanigans they'll be up to! Check here for reservations: These tours also tend to sell out quickly, especially the Holiday episodes.

So that pretty much does it for the International Year of the Prairie. There’s Tennessee for Christmas, and then on to the new year.

We don't have much solidly scheduled for 2015 at this point. There are some thoughts about Arizona in January or February, and Palm Springs is nice in February, too.

In March Alison goes back to France for a few weeks. Vous pouvez trouver plus sur l'Internet

And then there’s April.

Alison will be performing Confessions of a Prairie Bitch in Texas at the Rollins Theatre in the Long Center for the Performing Arts, 701 W. Riverside Drive, Austin, Texas 78704 (512-474-5664) from Tuesday, April 28th through Sunday, May 3rd. Shows are at 7:30 during the week and 8:00 on the weekends, with matinees on Saturday & Sunday. Check it out here: Texas, that's 8 shows! Get your tickets early; Alison has not played Texas in several decades!

And of course, there will be more, but that’s enough schedule for now.

Rumour Control

1. New York in May? Have you made your Mother's Day plans?
2. Memphis in June?? Could be good!
3. Has Alison been learning CPR? (More on this as it develops)
4. And does the water really swirl down the drains backwards in Australia?

"Prairie Memories", by Patrick Loubatiere. Check it out here: Prairie Memories is a book of exclusive in-depth interviews with Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls), Richard Bull (Nels Oleson), Katherine Macgregor (Harriett Oleson) and Dabs Greer (Reverend Alden). The interviews with Richard and Dabs were completed shortly before their deaths. It's full of behind the scenes stories and the section on Katherine Macgregor is 21 PAGES LONG!! And it includes exclusive photos from their private collections. I’ve seen on FaceBook that many of you already have them, so spread the word!

And that’s not all! Patrick also has 8 other Prairie books available! Mais seulement en Francais! Titles include: Michael Landon, Karl Swenson, Victor French, Kevin Hagen, Moses Gunn, Lucy Lee Flippin, Karen Grassle (Brand new!), and "La Malle au Tresors - Le Mag". I recently had a look at the new one on Karen. Stunningly beautiful photographs! Here’s the link: Tous les livres sont en francais sauf pour des 'Prairie Memories'. (That last one is about Alison’s other show that she does in French: "La Malle au tresors de Nellie Oleson")

Oh, and the part above where Alison performs a wedding? She can really do that now! She became ordained (in California) to perform real weddings (in California) that are legal and everything! Did I mention she can only do this in California? Not exactly true, since she qualifies in many other states too, but Nevada is not one of them.

Remember we talked about some of the cast going to Keystone South Dakota for their Holy Terror Days? Well, here’s a link to a local news story about their visit.

Prairie Tidbits

Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls) - aren is in a new play, "77%", at the Tides Theatre, 533 Sutter St., San Francisco, CA 94102 (415-399-1322). The play opened on October 29th and closes on November 22nd. Tickets prices are $7.50 – $20 Order Tickets online or call (415) 677-9596. From their website: "A high-powered businesswoman, her stay-at-home husband and her socialite mother wrestle with the decision to have another child, while her father braves a squall with his schooner in the Chesapeake Bay. What are the odds?" (Karen is the mother in law) Way to go, Karen!

Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls) - Melissa was recently on the Oprah Winfrey show in the "Where Are They Now" segment promoting her new cookbook and talking about life growing up on the prairie - click here. Melissa will be in town signing her new cookbook at Barnes & Noble at The Grove on December 13th - click here for details.

The Saga of Sock Monkey (Chapter Thirty-Three)
So the preparations for the new adventure were well under way. "This will be fun, said Alison. This will be the Little House TV Cast Reunion, part of the yearly celebration of the writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Walnut Grove has a population of 800, but there will be several thousand people there for this event." Sock Monkey considered all this information. He would have to make a point of watching several episodes of LHOTP so he would know what was going on, and who was who, so to speak. “Do they have bars there?” asked Sock Monkey. "They sure do, said Alison. In fact, I've been made an honorary member of a women's billiards team at the local bar!” So Sock Monkey took some comfort in the fact that he could still get a drink at the local saloon in Walnut Grove. He was a little worried. Alison adventures were never predictable, and he still had his secret to reveal. And he was sure that Walnut Grove would be nothing like Paris! (To be continued...)

So, there you have it. The International Year of the Prairie is almost over. Phew!! That was a rush. Let’s see how we can change things up for next year! As usual (Comme d'habitude), be good bonnet heads, and I’ll talk to you next month.

Alison's comedy album "Heeere's Amy!"
- back from the great beyond!

UPROAR Entertainment has re-released the comedy album Alison did back in 1977. It's called "Heeere's Amy!" and is a series of rather bizarre comedy sketches involving the daughter of President Jimmy Carter and her encounters with various idiots around the White House. It stars Alison, her mother and several 1970's comedians who went onto become quite famous....

For an explanation as to how - or for heaven's sake WHY - such a thing came into being, check out the explanation on her Tumblr page: "Heeere's Amy!" the back story

Many fans have tracked this down and bought the old vinyl version on E-Bay. But now, the past has gone digital and you can now download "Heeere's Amy!" to your I-Pod. Now available at UPROAR, Amazon, I-Tunes and all sites that sell downloadable comedy.

It may be because of rather than despite a lifetime of being loathed for her onscreen personality that Arngrim is an immensely likable narrator. She hilariously portrays 1970s Hollywood among a family of actorsliving in the Chateau Marmont and making soup from KFC chicken bones. Arngrim has no shame in bowing to the B-list celebrity gods and opens the door to the Little House in order to promote activism for people with HIV and abuse survivors.

Need a personally autographed copy of "Confessions of A Prairie Bitch", but you just CAN'T get near ANY of the book signings?? Fret no more Bonnet-heads! We have a SOLUTION!

  1. Go to the fabulous website for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
  2. Click on Shopping Cart, go to WG Related Books & TV Stars' Books, and click on Alison's book (Add To Cart). This will take you to the shopping cart, what is basically an order form.
  3. Look for the box that says "Ordering Instructions". See it? Good. Now type in your request. Tell them you want the book personally autographed to you. You can also request a certain dedication. ("From One Bitch To Another" is quite popular!)
  4. Then just order the books. It will take 2 to 3 weeks, because they then ship the book to Alison and she signs it and sends it back to Walnut Grove. (This will soon be simpler when they update their website!) Or if you don't need a personal dedication, just order an autographed book (found elsewhere on the site) and it will arrive sooner. (And while you're there, check out the authentic Prairie bonnets and dresses!)

AND SPEAKING OF BOOKS - Alison's Mom's Book is now available on Amazon
The Maquinna Line: A Family Saga is set on Vancouver Island from 1871 to 1945, with a nod to the meeting of Captain Cook and Chief Maquinna in 1778. It traces the stories of the five families of varied social standing, including two descendents of Chief Maquinna. In the end, theyre all ordinary people trying to find happiness in the face of intrigue, ambition, misunderstanding and changing social and sexual mores.

A murder, a tryst, a mysterious child. A Victoria aristocrat who obsesses over her Churchill relatives. A repressive Welsh mother with a royalty fixation. A once-carefree Hesquiat girl from Nootka Sound. A dashing Icelandic philanderer. And quiet, steady Julia Godolphin, trying to rise above it all. The lost novel of Norma Macmillan, the Vancouver actress who lived much of her life in New York and Hollywood, is the work of a woman steeped in the American entertainment industry but deeply in love with the history of her native province, which eventually drew her home before her death in 2001.
