Jess Petersen
March 27, 1944 to May 21, 2008

Jess was my "Personal Manager" for many years, but he was quite a bit more than that. He was sort of like a third parent. When I was a teenager, my friends used to tease me that I was the only person they knew who had, "a mother, a father and a Jess".

And well, now I don't have him anymore.

He led a very interesting life, (to put it mildly!), and I really had trouble getting everything he did into an obituary. To read Jess's biography click here

And... here is the latest from Alison and hubby Bob.

Well, it certainly has been a summer! And I guess it still is; 108 degrees last week in the valley. (Didn’t this used to be a desert?) And it tried to rain the other day. Not much of an effort!

Let’s see, where was I when last we spoke? Oh, yes, about to leave for France. We first went to Paris, where I had the best birthday ever! Thank you to everyone who was there, it was a great party. And we spent a few days running around in Paris. (Dali Museum, WAY too many stairs for one day!) And Sock Monkey was right, Hotel Chopin is fabulous! Then we went to Toulon.

It was the first ever gathering of the cast of LHOTP in France, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show. (The actual anniversary of the airing of the very first episode was on September 11th.) And I must say it was quite an experience! The most beautiful harbor in the world, and a submarine surfaced as we were sailing across the harbor! We were there with Karen Grassle, Charlotte Stewart, and Radames Pera. There were fans there from all over the country. (And a couple of other countries, too!) And everyone had a great time. Je veux dit merci a nos hôtes : Sophie, et Anne-Sophie, et Stephanie, et nos amis Gerald, Patrick, Barnaby, Eric! We can’t thank you enough! Radames had such a good time he stayed for a couple more weeks! And Karen went on to Germany! We were loving it!

Sample this: Then we went home and rested for a couple of days, and then Alison was off to Keystone South Dakota for “Holy Terror Days!” She was there with Rachel, Hersha, Charlotte and Radames. Signing autographs in the shadow of Mount Rushmore! (And Crazy Horse, too!) This will give you a sample of what went on in Keystone: Let’s get to the schedule:

Then she comes home just in time for a Halloween Party!! Guess what her costume is this year! (No, she's not going as Nellie! Sheesh!) Once again, our national holiday celebrating the birthday of Michael Landon, when we all try to carve his face into a pumpkin . . . (Bob, I don’t think that’s right!)

Bienvenue a tous nos nouveaux amis de la France! Je parle le français seulement un peu, mais je vais essayer d'ameliorer. (We had some fans sign up for the newsletter in Toulon!)

We've spoken about Alison’s comedy album from time to time: "Heere’s Amy!" Now you can have the story of where it came from:

And in case anyone was wondering, here’s the story on “How to Get An Autographed Picture”, straight from Alison herself: Autographs

And if you don’t yet have your copy of Prairie Memories, by Patrick Loubatiere, you can check it out here: Prairie Memories is a book of exclusive in-depth interviews with Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls), Richard Bull (Nels Oleson), Katherine Macgregor (Harriett Oleson) and Dabs Greer (Reverend Alden). The interviews with Richard and Dabs were completed shortly before their deaths. It’s full of behind the scenes stories and the section on Katherine Macgregor is 21 PAGES LONG!! And it includes exclusive photos from their private collections. I’ve seen on FaceBook that many of you already have them, so spread the word!

Hey, remember when several cast members were in New York doing the Today Show to commemorate the 40th Anniversary? Well, they stopped by the studios at Extra for a little chat. Check this out:

Prairie Tidbits:

Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls) – Melissa is now on tour signing her new book : “My Prairie Cookbook” She was in Parade Magazine last Sunday! Check her out: The Schedule for her signings: And if you want the book: - (I just ordered mine!!)

Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle) – Charlotte was just at the Toronto Film Festival for the release of the director’s cut of her film “Human Highway”. Check it out here Charlotte, Neil Young, and my old pals Devo! (I’m from Akron Ohio, remember!) And wait, there’s more! Another film that Charlotte did has just been re-mastered and released on Blu-Ray (and DVD). It’s the one that she was working on when she started on Little House, “Eraserhead”. Here’s what the NY Post had to say:

Lucy Lee Flippin (Eliza Jane Wilder) – Just yesterday Lucy Lee was at Wilder Days in Mansfield Missouri. Form their website: “Join us September 20st 2014 for our annual celebration commemorating Laura Ingalls Wilder, America’s favorite pioneer girl, and her cherished “Little House” books. Guest speaker will be Lucy Lee “Eliza Jane” from TV’s Little House on the Prairie. Lucy will be speaking and autographing at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home & Museum. Hear Pa’s fiddle, take a tour of the home, the upstairs of the historic house will be open for touring this day only, enjoy the grounds of Rocky Ridge Farm.” Or check them out at:

The Saga of Sock Monkey - (Chapter Thirty-Two)

Sock Monkey was shocked! As he was about to make his big revelation, she had challenged him with a new adventure! And just what could it be this time?? “Hmmm, he thought to himself, what is a ‘Walnut Grove’ anyway?” Alison smiled. “It was the original scene of the original crime, so to speak!” she said. Now Sock Monkey was really confused. So he sipped his wine and said, “What crime?” “You know, the real Walnut Grove where the real Little House on the Prairie was! And the real Plum Creek, not like the imitation one in Simi Valley!” Sock Monkey was taken aback! He finished off his wine and thought for a minute. “Wait, he said, you mean to tell me that there was a real Little House, and a real Plum Creek, and a real Laura, and a real....Nellie!” Sock Monkey gasped in horror. It couldn’t be true! All this time he had taken comfort in the fact that it was all made up, that there could never have been anyone ...Sock Monkey covered his face and moaned out loud. (To be continued...)

So, there you have it. The International Year of the Prairie continues. Alison is off for France, for six weeks this time, and I’m still here. (I’m threatening to change the locks on her again!!)

As usual (Comme d’habitude), be good bonnet heads, and I’ll talk to you next month.

Alison's comedy album "Heeere's Amy!"
- back from the great beyond!

UPROAR Entertainment has re-released the comedy album Alison did back in 1977. It's called "Heeere's Amy!" and is a series of rather bizarre comedy sketches involving the daughter of President Jimmy Carter and her encounters with various idiots around the White House. It stars Alison, her mother and several 1970's comedians who went onto become quite famous....

For an explanation as to how - or for heaven's sake WHY - such a thing came into being, check out the explanation on her Tumblr page: "Heeere's Amy!" the back story

Many fans have tracked this down and bought the old vinyl version on E-Bay. But now, the past has gone digital and you can now download "Heeere's Amy!" to your I-Pod. Now available at UPROAR, Amazon, I-Tunes and all sites that sell downloadable comedy.

It may be because of rather than despite a lifetime of being loathed for her onscreen personality that Arngrim is an immensely likable narrator. She hilariously portrays 1970s Hollywood among a family of actorsliving in the Chateau Marmont and making soup from KFC chicken bones. Arngrim has no shame in bowing to the B-list celebrity gods and opens the door to the Little House in order to promote activism for people with HIV and abuse survivors.

Alison's book is now unleashed upon the world and if you can't make it to one of her pesonal appearances to get it autographed you can pre-order online:

Order on Amazon

Order on Barnes and Noble

Order on Borders

Order on IndieBound

Need a personally autographed copy of "Confessions of A Prairie Bitch", but you just CAN'T get near ANY of the book signings?? Fret no more Bonnet-heads! We have a SOLUTION!

  1. Go to the fabulous website for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
  2. Click on Shopping Cart, go to WG Related Books & TV Stars' Books, and click on Alison's book (Add To Cart). This will take you to the shopping cart, what is basically an order form.
  3. Look for the box that says "Ordering Instructions". See it? Good. Now type in your request. Tell them you want the book personally autographed to you. You can also request a certain dedication. ("From One Bitch To Another" is quite popular!)
  4. Then just order the books. It will take 2 to 3 weeks, because they then ship the book to Alison and she signs it and sends it back to Walnut Grove. (This will soon be simpler when they update their website!) Or if you don't need a personal dedication, just order an autographed book (found elsewhere on the site) and it will arrive sooner. (And while you're there, check out the authentic Prairie bonnets and dresses!)

AND SPEAKING OF BOOKS - Alison's Mom's Book is now available on Amazon
The Maquinna Line: A Family Saga is set on Vancouver Island from 1871 to 1945, with a nod to the meeting of Captain Cook and Chief Maquinna in 1778. It traces the stories of the five families of varied social standing, including two descendents of Chief Maquinna. In the end, theyre all ordinary people trying to find happiness in the face of intrigue, ambition, misunderstanding and changing social and sexual mores.

A murder, a tryst, a mysterious child. A Victoria aristocrat who obsesses over her Churchill relatives. A repressive Welsh mother with a royalty fixation. A once-carefree Hesquiat girl from Nootka Sound. A dashing Icelandic philanderer. And quiet, steady Julia Godolphin, trying to rise above it all. The lost novel of Norma Macmillan, the Vancouver actress who lived much of her life in New York and Hollywood, is the work of a woman steeped in the American entertainment industry but deeply in love with the history of her native province, which eventually drew her home before her death in 2001.
